In 1912, young Indiana Jones and his friend Herman discovered Panama Hat’s gang, led by Fedora, looting caves and unearthing the Cross of Coronado, a jewel-encrusted crucifix. Believing it belonged in a museum, Jones attempted to retrieve it but was caught and chased home. Despite Herman fetching the Sheriff, the Cross was returned to Panama Hat. Commissioned by Emperor Justinian II, the Cross was believed to contain a fragment of Christ’s crucifixion and was originally given to Francisco Vásquez de Coronado by Hernando Cortés in 1520 during his quest for treasure.
